Back from PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (II) (KLCC)
I am back from PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (II) held in KL. It was so crowded and I almost regretted goingthere… I only completed half of my PC Fair shopping list.
These are what I got: Apple iMac 24" 2.8GHz, WD My Book Studio (500GB) external hard drive, SONY DCR-SR65 40GB Handycam Camcorder. I missed the NAS, netbook, and webcam.
P1 W1Max Wimax speed test
One of the major attraction about PC Fair 2008 (II) is the P1 W1MAX wimax service. I tried the wimax connection at PC Fair, the Internet speed is quite impressive. Web pages loaded fast, no load waiting for YouTube videos.
The following is the screenshot of speed test result for P1 W1MAX:
It shows 2.66Mbps download speed and 536Kbps upload speed for P1 W1MAX wimax connection. That’s much faster than normal Streamyx broadband connection, although the upload speed is capped at 512K.
P1 W1MAX wimax service is not officially launched yet but is expected to launch in August 2008. More details such as subscription plans and prices will be revealed by then.
Oh, my lovely Apple iMac!
In fact, I didn’t buy my lovely Apple iMac at PC Fair. I bought mine at the Machines, KLCC. They did not have booth at PC Fair but there was promotion in August 2008. I got my iMac with free 2GB memory upgrade, creative speakers, and 1GB Pendrive.
The iMac comes with 2GB RAM and Machines free additional 2GB RAM, so it adds up to 4GB RAM (max supported capacity of iMac), right? Wrong. Apple installed two 1GB memory modules in iMac. To upgrade to 2GB RAM module, you have to unplug 1GB then install the 2GB.. In the end, you only get 3GB RAM.
I am quite unhappy with the design. I feel that my iMac is imperfect with 1GB lack behind… Although 3GB RAM might be more than enough for my usage.
The Apple iMac 24″ is so heavy that I could hardly carry it for more than 15 meters. Luckily, my sister was driving, or else I had to take a cab to deliver the monster. Anyway, I really enjoy the attention I had while carrying the big Apple box in KLCC. LOL~
I am not home with my iMac. My sister will drive it back on 16th August, 2008. So, I have to wait until then to blog with my new iMac. :(
im waiting for ur iMac post
hi, met you at PC fair :)
how did you bought your Ee PC?
was wondering how good it is :)
How much you bought the P1 WiMax ?
included service and hardware fee ?
You’re gonna love the gigantic screen. I use a MBP with a 24″ monitor so it is similar and it works great.
Becoming a true Mac switcher? :P
Do you have any laser AIO printer (print-fax-scan) with you? Something like Canon MF4150. Will it something necessary to a blogger?
you know, i would love to see your brand new studio/room. get yourself some really nice office furniture, then throw a LiewCF T-shirt design competition
I am waiting for Wimax to launch, and interested with the price they wanna set. Hope it wont be so expensive.
Wah brother, so many items. Envy you lar! :) Anyway nice gadgets you have there. I love the monitor a lot… Too bad can’t afford!
hm its a nice piece of electronics.. I wud love to use this!!!
How do you carry all those back by the way.. lol
wow i’m impressed with the P1 WiMAX speed. hopefully some competition will kick Streamyx’s butt into action
@Ethan: I didn’t buy Eee PC. P1 WiMax is not launch yet. The package will include the wimax unit.
@Gen Kanai: yes, I am using 12″ ibook with 24″ dell ultrasharp LCD monitor
@Danny Foo: I already a mac switcher few years ago ;)
@Marco: I have a monochrome laser printer and an all-in-one inkjet printer. They are important for small home office like fulltime blogger.
@Calvin: LiewCF T-shirt design competition? Good idea :)
@Kenneth: I didn’t carry the big iMac and speakers back. Only the camcorder and external hard drive.
the handicam!?! Wow, are we expecting a live tech show from you soon? ustream or something?
@nocturnale: no, the handycam belongs to my elder brother. I think iMac’s build-in iSight is enough for shooting online video :)
