Looking for a Laser Printer
My good old Canon i255 printer prints blank pages now. Printer head cleaning doesn’t help. I think it is time to get a new printer, a laser printer.
Why a laser printer? Because it is fast, quiet and I like the way a blank paper slide out smoothly from the printer with printed text. :)
What I want for a laser printer
I seldom print colored documents, a monochrome printer is fine. Plus, I have a HP Officejet 5610 All-in-one printer on my side for color printing later.
I am looking for a laser printer with the following features:
- Network-ready — I want to share the printer with other computers at home.
- Duplex printing — Ability to print double side of a paper. Save Money, Save Earth.
- Mac OS support — I have an Apple iBook, the printer needs to work with it.
It is not too difficult to find a laser printer with the features, right? My budget is less than RM$1,500.
After a short research, I found HP LaserJet 1022n Printer. It has all the features I want, priced at RM$1,198(click for eBay price). It’s sister, HP LaserJet 1022(no ‘n’) with optional Network-ready is only RM$769 (click for eBay price). Wow, RM$429 different for the network printing feature!
Suggestion?
Are you using a laser printer? What is your suggestion of a budget laser printer? Please help me to choose an ideal laser printer~
oh the implications… hahahahahaah
wah, liew, this post is just right, i’m looking for a laser printer too ;)
Bear suggest to get a laser printer with open source driver like those from Brother.
Non-opensource driver devices in general will die with the OS and the company.
Bear realizes this cos alot of surviving devices bear used is supported by opensource drivers. One such device is TV-tuner. The one bear got only provided WinNT, and Win98 drivers. When bear upgraded to WinXP, company said bear have to get new devices with new driver. Lucky for bear, the TV tuner is encoded with some openstandard stuff, which bear dun understand. But it worked under linux. and in fact, it worked better than windows cos, windows one works only 640×480, opensource driver and software work 2-3x that, and supports many-many other cards too. TV-tuner card is now 9 years old.
Bear also have ATI card. trust me, it is a no-go. Card is 6 months old. upgrading to n-vidia soon.
Now, bear stuck with Canon LBP-810. Canon said no opensource or linux driver. They only have win98/me and winNT driver. Lucky for bear they give winxp driver 4-5years ago after nearly 6 months of waiting. Not sure vista driver is going to be made available or not for LBP810. Bear no have vista… nevermind. LBP-810 is now 8 years old.
But Bear no buy Canon anymore. Bear wonder if have other company like WaterGun, BBGun, Nuklear or Howiser or something like that who over products with opensource drivers. Hmmm….
Think about it.
Bear.
thanks, bear. opensource driver supported is a good idea. I might run linux os later along side with vista and mac.
Wah your specs so canggih… I’m using brother HL-2040 (2070n for network) and it works really great. Have two sets (one at home another in uni) . But have manual duplex only so not your type :) . Will certainly recommend brother, they are great in laser! and cost-effective also.
Thanks, Alpha. I will consider Brother 2070n. I exclude Brother previously because I had bad experience with its all-in-one printer and poor services in my area.
i’ve used one monochrome laser printer and feel very satisfied about it. maybe you should include a Brother laser printer. i know that the name maybe doesn’t sound very familiar, but i’ve seen many cyber cafes are using it.
and it is FAST.
well…i’m also still in confuse mode…
dont know which brand and type
for buying that LaserPrinter…
omG!!
somebody could help?
@jaya28inside: you need to understand the purpose you buy the printer. what functions are Must Have and Nice to Have and your Budget. They help you to filter the printer models to what you really need and affordable.
Pick a few from each brand and compare them. Check the product reviews online. Ask the user experiences.
Check for stock availability and current price, then get ONE!
Happy shopping! :)
