[box type=”info”]Update (April 9, 2013): Apple lists Maxis as supported 4G LTE network![/box]

Malaysia Maxis telco confirmed that it will support 4G LTE 1800MHz spectrum in first 6 months in 2013, and revealed a list of supported 4G smartphones, including iPhone 5.

Maxis launched Malaysia’s first 4G LTE service on January 1st, 2013. However, due to the MCMC license, it is only available at 2600Mhz spectrum. It does not support LTE smartphones that support 1800Mhz spectrum, such as Apple iPhone 5. It disappointed new iPhone 5 owners because 4G LTE support is one of the iPhone 5 features.

In the recent Maxis Get-Together Session, Mark Dioguardi, Maxis Joint Chief Operating Officer, revealed that Maxis will support LTE 1800Mhz in the next 6 months. Meaning, your iPhone 5 can use Maxis 4G network in 2013.

How about other Malaysia telcos

So far we haven’t heard of other Malaysia telcos to support 1800Mhz spectrum. Celcom is showcasing its LTE 2600MHz at Experience Hubs. DiGi has not even made LTE service announcement yet.
