‘Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft’ Free Card Game by Blizzard [Sponsored]

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft from Blizzard

Do you play card games? I never play any card game before but I am now addicted to Hearthstone after playing for an hour.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft from Blizzard

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is the latest game from Blizzard, the creators of world popular computer games like World of Warcraft, Diablo III and StarCraft 2. It is the company first’s free-to-play game. Yes, you can play it free at playhearthstone.com

Hearthstone is now available for Windows, Mac and iPad. The free card game will be available for other platforms in the future.

Simply download and install the game to play for free. You will need a free Battle.net account to play. The game download size is few hundreds MB. I installed Hearthstone on Windows 8.1, the installer automatically created Hearthstone shortcut to launch the game via Battle.net.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a digital collectible card game in the Warcraft universe. It does not matter if you do not know Warcraft or never play any card game before (just like me!), Hearthstone is easy to get start for anyone. It has 6 easy to follow tutorial levels for new gamers to learn about the gameplay.

Easy step-by-step game tutorial

The game’s graphic is beautiful and detailed. I enjoy watching the virtual effects of each card’s attacks. The background music and sound effects are great, too. Best of all, you do not need high hardware specs to play the game!

The game has 9 Hero classes, each class has own unique cards and share same neutral cards. There are three main types of cards: minions, spells and weapons. Each card requires certain amount of “mana” to play. Each minion card has the attack point and health point.

Card drawing is random and depends on your luck… It is as simple as plus & minus attack and health points. However, a carefully planned strategy will ensure your victory. You win the game when you killed the Hero of opposite side.

When I am playing Hearthstone, I keep on counting the attack and health points against the enemies, while watching the Mana count and praying for a good card…

When you finished the first 6 levels, you then can play against other online Hearthstone players. The game will track your win and lose and find you an opponent with equal skills, so that you always have a fair and fun game.

Here’s a tip: After lost over 20 games, I found that you need to use custom deck to put your favourite cards together in order to win against other players. You can have 9 decks and each deck can hold 30 cards. Make use of them!

Hearthstone Custom Deck

You can play “Solo Adventure” mode against computer, unlock all Hero classes and start your adventure to win special cards.

Since each Hearthstone game will only take 10-15 minutes, it is perfect game for a short break in the middle or work, while waiting in queue, or in transit.

As you can see now, it is important to have powerful cards. You can get cards through Play mode and Solo Adventure. The game supports in-game purchase, you can buy cards using Battle.net Balance or other supported payment methods like MOLPoint in Malaysia.

Hearthstone Card Pack
Hearthstone Card Pack

Each card pack consists of five random cards. Cards can be common (white), rare (blue), epic (purple), or legendary (orange). Each card pack is guaranteed to contain at least one card of rare or better quality.

Personally, I prefer short, turn-by-turn and strategy games. These kind of games allow me to take a break, refresh my mind and no game timing pressure. No doubt, Blizzard’s Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is my new favourite game on Windows, Mac, and iPad.

[LiewCF Buying Guide] iPad Air or iPad Mini 2? Specs and Prices Compared

iPadAir-iPadMini

iPad Air and iPad mini 2

Struggling about buying iPad Air or iPad mini 2? In this article, I compared iPad Air and iPad mini 2 specs and prices and tell you the secret to choose your best iPad.

Compare iPad Air vs. iPad mini 2 specs

For tablet weight, 9.7-inch iPad Air is 138 gram heavier than 7.9-inch iPad mini 2 (331 gram) with the same 7.5mm depth.

100+ gram does not seem heavy but it would make a different when you are holding it for a long time.

Retina display is one of the most requested feature for iPad mini. Now both iPad Air and iPad mini 2 have the same Retina display resolution (2048 x 1536 pixels).

Due to smaller display size, iPad mini 2 has higher pixels per inch (ppi) at 326 than iPad Air (264 ppi). However, you won’t notice the different in their PPI, both are great, trust me.

New A7 64-bit processor is used in both iPad Air and iPad mini 2. It is a great upgrade for iPad mini (A5 to A7) and a step upgrade for iPad (A6X to A7). Every benchmark result shows A7 processor performance is a lot better than previous processors.

Faster processor means shorter battery life, correct? Not in this case. iPad Air and iPad mini 2 still keep the famous 10 hours battery life.

So, should you buy iPad Air or iPad mini 2?

iPad Air and iPad mini 2 specs are same in many ways – both iPads are retina display, same processor, same cameras, same battery life…

The only major different is the display size – 9.7 inch vs. 7.9 inch.

iPad Air’s bigger display is ideal for watching movies with your partner. iPad Air – lightweight & long battery life – could be your ultrabook replacement if you feel comfortable of using iOS productivity apps for work.

For those who prefer a smaller device that can be hold by one hand for a longer time (read news, books, comics, etc), iPad mini 2 is your ideal tablet. It is easier to keep iPad mini 2 too – throw it in any bag and you are ready to go.

Compare iPad Air vs. iPad mini 2 price

  • iPad mini 2 WiFi+Cellular (4G LTE) 64GB – RM 2,349
  • iPad mini 2 WiFi+Cellular (4G LTE) 128GB – RM 2,679

iPad mini 2 WiFi 16GB is RM330 more expensive than iPad mini WiFi 16GB. The latter is the only iPad mini 1st generation model available now on Apple Store Malaysia.

Cheapest iPads in the World!

Though iPad Air and iPad mini 2 are both more expensive than previous generation, but Malaysia’s new iPads are one of the cheapest in the world! The price is matching to the Apple USA price!

Availability in Malaysia

iPad Air and iPad mini Retina Display (iPad mini 2) are available without contract at all local Apple resellers, such as Machines, Mac City, Switch and SenQ.

Local telcos – Maxis, DiGi, Celcom – are also offer iPad Air WiFi+4G and iPad mini 2 WiFi+4G with data plan contracts.

Thought

In a nutshell, it really depends on your personal usage and preference. Would you prefer a bigger or smaller tablet?

Instead of struggling in front your computer, why don’t you visit nearest Apple resellers and try both iPad Air and iPad mini 2 to find out which one you like most?

No matter you buy iPad Air and iPad mini 2, they are good for the next few years – thanks to 64-bit processor, good build, iOS updates, and good battery life.

You won’t be wrong buying either one. However, you are advised to buy at least 32GB model. 16GB won’t be enough for your many iPad apps, photos and videos.

So, are you iPad Air or iPad mini 2?

Malaysia iPad Air and iPad mini 2 Coming from Celcom, DiGi, Maxis

iPadAir-iPadMini

iPad Air and iPad mini 2

Malaysia main telcos – Celcom, DiGi, Maxis – updated their websites to add iPad Air and iPad mini with retina display (iPad mini 2) to their list of mobile devices. Pre-registration open now, except Maxis.

Celcom (iPad air, iPad mini 2) and DiGi are now accepting register of interest for both two latest tablets from Apple. Maxis does not have pre-registeration, only says on the website “Plans & pricing coming soon”.

While none of the telcos unveil the iPad Air and iPad mini 2 price and release date, sources say that Celcom will unveil iPad Air plans on December 9th, 2013. It is safe to assume other telcos will follow the same iPad release date.

The rule of thumb is that “you can always buy new iPad before Christmas of the year.” Hohoho! :)

Klipsch X7i sound quality is GREAT! I tested it with different genre music: pop, hip-hop, R&B, rock… The mids and treble are crisp and clear. Voices is so real that it feels like the singer is singing beside you!

However, X7i has relatively weak bass, not to mention bass bomb. If you are a heavy-bass person then you may want to look for other headphones.

Now You Can Download Google Maps for iOS in Malaysia App Store

Since Google Maps app for iOS released in December 2012, Malaysians have been waiting for the maps app in Malaysia App Store to replace the lousy Apple Maps on their iPhone and iPad.

Wait no more! Google Maps for iOS is now available for free download at Malaysia App Store!

When Google Maps for Android updated with new design and turn-by-turn navigation in Malaysia, Google Malaysia said iOS version is coming “as soon as we[Google] get App Store approval”. A week later, Google Maps for iOS appears in Malaysia App Store!

What’s new in version 2.0

Google Maps iOS navigation
Google Maps iOS navigation

The following is what’s new in Google Maps for iOS version 2.0:

  • New design for iPad
  • Enhanced navigation including live traffic updates and incident reports
  • Explore: a new way to browse and discover popular local places to eat, drink, shop, play and sleep
  • Simple 5-star ratings and reviews from friends, plus expert Zagat content
  • Great deals from your favourite brands with Google Offers
  • Indoor maps with walking directions for shopping centres, public transport stations, airports and more.

What’s missing

However, I see some missing features in Malaysia’s Google Maps 2.0. It does not have cycling direction, local reviews (Explore), and Street View. Public Transport direction has no data but showing walking time instead.

Google Maps iOS route options
Google Maps iOS route options

In short, Google Maps for iOS in Malaysia is only good for location search and getting direction. Anyway, thanks to the Google Maps data, the location search is fast and accurate. Driving direction gives you alternative routes and estimated travel time, too.

Google Maps for iOS is now No.1 free app on Malaysia App Store. The average rating is 4.5 out of 5 based on 145 ratings. That’s very positive! The top keyword in the app review is – “Finally!”

Some users comment that Google Maps app is a bit lagging on iPad. I can not test it because iPad 1 is not supported. Google Maps 2.0 requires iOS 6.0 or later. Meaning, only support iPhone 3GS or later, iPad 2 or later, and iPad mini.

Google Maps or Waze?

Waze was an alternative to Google Maps navigation when the latter is not available in local App Store. Now that Waze and Google Maps are both available, which one would you use for your navigation?

Personally, I would use Google Maps to search for venue locations and checking the nearby public transports because the map data is more complete.

Waze is good for live traffic report while you are driving. Waze uses crowdsourcing map data, it really depends on the number of Waze users in an area. Some areas have complete map, but some are incompletely mapped.
