Microsoft has released Office Mobile for iPhone as free download for Office 365 subscribers on Apple App Store.

The free Office app “Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers” requires you to sign in their Office 365 account. Then, you can access, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents stored on SkyDrive cloud storage.

Based on the screenshots and other early reviewers, Office app for iPhone is a stripped down version of Microsoft Office. It is only good for basic editing.

Office app for iPhone can be installed on up to five iPhones. It will stop working when you end Office 365 subscription. Files will still accessible on SkyDrive, anyway.

Windows Phone 8 users would be happy to have Office pre-installed on their devices already, without paying subscription fee. For tablet size device, Microsoft Windows RT devices are pre-installed with free Office 2013 RT.
