I killed My Linksys WRT54G WiFi Router!

My Linksys WRT54G WiFi router is not functioning after working for half month without any rest!

This afternoon, my Internet connection went down suddenly, while I was chatting with my cough net friends. My brother found that router lights were off even though the power was switched on.

I sensed something wrong…

I checked the power adapter. Ough! It was HOT! I replaced the Linksys power adapter with a modem’s power adapter (same input/output power). The router was on but the power light is flashing.

So, the Linksys power adapter died due to overheat. And the router was also half death, may have been caused by unstable currents from the spoiled power adapter.

I read it in the Linksys documentation that if the power light is flashing, it can be fixed by updating its firmware. Well, I am not going to do that. Since the power adapter is malfunctioning already, I might as well claim warranty and replace both of them.

Well, I will probably visit Kuala Lumpur soon to replace the Linksys WRT54G WiFi router. It has three years warranty, anyway.

My two cents

We were treating the Linksys router too cruelly… Lesson learned: “Hardware needs to rest too.”
