Review Nokia N8 From Maxis 10 Reviewers Programme
Maxis, the Malaysia local telco, has a Maxis 10 Reviewers Programme which in each batch, 10 bloggers would be picked to review their latest phone offer. It has been several batches now. Everyone can apply but I am not so sure about the selection criteria though.
Lucky enough, I was selected as 1 of 10 Malaysian bloggers to review the Nokia N8 smartphone.
Yes, the phone with 12 Megapixel camera!
The secret of Maxis 10 reviewers programme
Follow Maxis on Facebook and Twitter. They would make announcement when reviewer is wanted. You would need to fill in a form, submit, and wait for the lucky angel.
I was contacted first by a call to be informed the phone collect date. The venue is Maxis office tower, in a small meeting room.
A brief introduction was given to our 10 bloggers. We are asked to write at least 5 blog posts on the Nokia N8 and to mention about the phone’s highlighted features. We are encouraged to write honest reviews, which I am glad to obey.
Then, we unboxed Nokia N8 and check our loaned unit. Everyone went back home happily with the brand new Nokia N8. We have 2 weeks to review the phone.
Nokia N8, the first impression (5 minutes)
The first thing I noticed about N8 was the big touch screen display and only one menu button. The one I got is silver color, which looks really classic.
Nokia N8 has a better touch screen sensitiveness than Nokia N900, at least you don’t need to use a stylus (and it is not included).
The display is bright. Colors are nice. But, still the same old Nokia buttons and design. I heard Nokia N8 is using the new Symbian^3 OS but I don’t see much difference than previous Symbian smartphone…
For unknown reason, most touch screen smartphones, by default, vibrate a little bit when you tap on the tocuh screen. This was the 1st “feature” I turn off after got the Nokia N8.
The 12 Megapixel camera at the backside is so big that it stand out from the rest of the back surface for about 2mm. The lens is big. The Xenon flash is big. Makes me about the image quality.
More Nokia N8 review posts are coming up next. Stay tuned!
Disclosure: I am an Apple iPhone 3GS user.
Looking forward to the camera review :)
I don’t really prefer the haptic feedback as well, except when playing games.
A little story about the vibration on tap feature.
Vibration on tap was a feature used by Nintendo DS.
At that time, iPhone first generation was just released.
Since iPhone do not have a keybaord. Many users find it difficult to do ‘touch typing’ since iPhone is lack of physical buttons.
In order to ‘fix’ the typing experience, Appled explored many ways.
Yet they had decided to ‘borrow’ the NDS feature in order to mimic the tradional typing experience.
Since then most touch screen phones decided to ‘borrow’ as well.
hmm.. but.. I don’t see iPhone has the “vibrate on touch” feature now?
ha.. my memory failed. It wasn’t Apple that introduced “Haptic Feedback” (vibrate on touch) to iPhone. It was a 3rd party virtual keyboard. http://bit.ly/cTERz2
