Streamyx Down and Fixed, again

Just like many other Malaysians, my Internet broadband service — TMNet Streamyx — was unreliable in the last week. The Internet connection kept on disconnecting. If connected (lucky!), it was snail speed broadband connection. How to solve the problem? I called the free service number “100” for 3 times and the technicians troubleshoot my line for 3 times to fix it too.

1st call

My line was very noisy. Called 100 and opened a file. The next day, we received a call from TM technician asking if the line was clear (without visiting my house). Yes, it was clear at that moment. Few hours later, the line noise is back. Streamyx was also down. Called 100 again.

2nd call

The TM technician came in the morning and I hadn’t woke up (typical liewcf’s blogger life style). My brother told me that the technician told him that the phone line was soaking in the water (?!?!). He had clear the water and the line was ok. Good job, fixed in 5 minutes! (although the solution was abnormal)

Again, the broadband connection up for a few hours and down again… Testing our patience huh?

3rd call (finally)

I made the 3rd call in the night. The receptionist wanted me to confirm whether that the problem was about “noisy phone line” or “streamyx”. I said, “both”. You see, you get a noisy phone line thus you get bad broadband connection. I wasn’t sure about the answer he wanted. He seemed more impatient than I was. After holding the phone for a while, he told me that technician would come to check again.

The next day (today), two TM technicians came in the afternoon. I guess he was already fed up with us. :P This time, they did a detail checking. One climbed up to roof, one climbed up to the phone tower. One made 2 test calls to ensure “crystal clear” phone voice quality. Then, they left without saying “bye”. They just “vrooommm…” and gone. I was stunned.

Anyway, my line became normal after that. Phew~ now I can surf online and don’t need to worry about disconnection.

My two cents

Although the TM service is fast (they came at the next day) but the same problem happens every one or two months. Can’t it be fixed permanently?  “Disconnection” should not a problem that broadband users should worry about!

Do I have other choice? No, there is no other broadband provider in my area. No 3G too. I have no choice but use Streamyx for my Internet connection. Everytime streamyx is down, I hope to move to Singapore to enjoy their cheap and fast 10Mbps broadband connection…

Following my friends twitter(@liewcf), I discovered that, recently, Malaysians are faced with increasing Streamyx problems. Are you one of them? Please share you bad/good experience.

  1. Im one of the victim too. Its normal to call TM every 2 or 3 months. And they replied me, it is normal and consider very good already! Hey, that is enterprise package for company, not normal home user le.

Ur TM technician experience really make me lol, too funny ;) (im in Jusco now)

  2. No Celcom Wireless Broadband in your area? Have you tested it? DiGi? Hehehe… luckily the 100 operator didn’t ask you to off modem, on modem, open network connection, key in the DNS … like they always do, assuming everybody just used Internet for 1 day.

  3. Yup, i can confirm that.. Streamyx connection here in Miri is also doing its part in sucking up. The lag is soo frustrating, i can say that i’ve turn into the hulk a few times out of anger and frustration because of the stupid internet connection.

  4. Streamyx sucks!
My location has been upgraded to fiber optic.. but the line still sucks!
Better don’t call streamyx … I wonder their technician just same knowledge as an operator. Even the call support personnel also don’t have good knowledge. I think they just follow the pc display instruction.

Forget about streamyx… Next round I will move to Singapore use their service.

Now streamyx even start a trial service call IPTV, they want to compete with astro but IPTV is online streaming video.

Based on streamyx broadband service, are they capable of running video streaming online? A big laugh!

  5. It happened to me too. During weekend, when I am going back to my hometown. The line is not stable, always disconnect. Quite frustrated. If stay in penang, may be I can try penangFON. But, too bad no kedahFON.

  6. Took me 3 weeks to fix my initial problem. Now i have an issue withmy corp line and it has been 5 days with no response from them.

They hire MORONS to work for them. LAZY FAT BAST***s.

    Sorry I’m just pissed..

  7. Streamyx has a lot of problems.
hardwares problem such as port/switches, phone lines and etc.
employee problem such as no proper diagnostic skill.
customer service problem such as no one pick up the phone, ask stupid questions.

  8. Boycott Stremyx by unsubscribe it, which I already did. Seem like run by a bunch of lunatic who are not serious, until now they seem like still on pilot project. Speed is awful, no value for money. Need to burn their backside a little bit. Show us the QUALITY and VALUE! :)

  9. my area at gombak permai pangsapuri currently doesn’t have any streamyx at all! but they still continue to charge me streamyx bill nearly for one year even after the line is already terminated (because moving to no streamyx area). luckily got celcom snails 3g :p

  10. Do you use wireless router?

If you do, whenever there is any ‘disturbances’ in streamyx line, you will need to reset or reboot the router to get the line.

It happened to my place in kota damansara.

Whenever streamyx is down, I have to shut down the PC and Notebook followed by the power to the router. Then switch on the router, the pc that connected to the router and then the notebook in that order. Otherwise, the pc can’t detect the router. If I got the notebook up before the router has fully login to streamyx, the notebook wireless software can’t detect the router.

Why can’t those hardware people make using the pc much simpler just like switching on the tv and dvd player?

What do you guys think? Is it going to happen in our life time?

  11. I switched from Streamyx to Metrofon when Metrofon became available at my condo in Sri Petaling, KL. Metrofon is not perfect but definitely a better deal compared to Streamyx.

  12. maybe some will say “pasangkan. aktifkan. JIASAI!” :P

anyway, my line is doing well in past 24 hours. I feel happy :)

  13. Few days back, many people throughout Sarawak was complaining about cannot surf the net. Yet, I wasn’t struck with any problem… Strange, I surfed like usual and even manage to stream more than 2 one-hour videos :P Hahaha… I seldom have problem with them, the worst times were when I just started out with Streamyx, after that it’s once in a blue moon thing either slow or no line but DSL light is always on and usually it’s back in less than few hours or immediately after they reset my port. I guess I’m one lucky one hahaha…

  14. I think everyone is having the same problems for that past few days. Sunway has the same problem as well. up and downs. for 2 hours down. up for 1 hour, then down again. and they didn’t announce for any upgrades or maintenance.

  15. Wanna see what I wrote to customer care center?

I will be very direct to you because I am really pissed off.
i’ve been having the same problem for the last 2 months and it is not being
solved yet. may i know what should i do to get your attention on the issue that i’m currently facing?

    1. my connection keep on disconnecting randomly every 5 minutes throughout the day (day/night). this has been going on for 2 months already.
    username = xxxxxx

    2. your techical support told me that is it related to splitter. FINE!. i
have change my splitter 2 times already. when i am connecting with my splitter and my phone line, my internet connection sucks.
when i am connecting my internet directly without the splitter, the
connection half sucks. tell me, what is the point of me paying rm66 per month when i can use either my phone or streamyx and not both at the same time? now everytime i wanna use the phone, i need to plug in, when i wanna use the internet, i need to unplug the phone and plug in the
modem line. WHERE IS THE LOGIC TO THAT?!

    3. i have requested your technical support named zainol or whatever to check out my website. reason being is that i have uploaded a video that i have recorded to show you exactly what is going on. but he seems reluctant and insisted me to troubleshoot on my side first. ask me to do the stupid flushdns, speedometer test. don’t you get it? i have been doing this for like forever already and the issue is STILL THERE! go and see it for yourself ! ->

    4. i wanted to upgrade my package from 512 to 1MB but guess what, I’m not
allowed to upgrade. reason being is that my house is to far away (>5km) from the main station.

    – reply from tmpoin is that IF I CLOSE MY CURRENT ACCOUNT, I CAN Re-
APPLY the 1MB package. DO U EXPECT US, the CUSTOMER, will waste the
RM50 activation fees just because of this reason?
    – if that is the case, when why did you allow me to apply for streamyx in
the first place 4 years ago ??
    – this issue has been going on for 4 years already ever since i use
streamyx. more and more ppl are using streamyx near where i stay and
how come there is no any nearer station being established?

hope this gets your attention and i can’t wait to see what you will reply me

if this doesn’t get their attention, i dunno what will….

  16. What is streamyx? If you type the word “streamyx” in my eOxford Dictionary, you only get “STREAM” = a small, narrow river

So the outcome is Streamyx = a small, narrow river of “speed!”

  17. I had applied to upgrade my Streamyx to 4 mbps since I need to upload a lot big files. After 4 reminders still no response. I guess they are too busy attending HR open houses. Now Deepavali open houses, then HRK and CNY open houses. Narrow business sense?
