Epson Launched First Monochrome Inkjet Printers: Epson K200 and Epson K100
In response to growing demands for high performance and low cost monochrome printing, Epson has introduced its first monochrome inject printers in over 15 years: the Epson K100 single function and K200 all-in-one printers.
That’s interesting. When we think about monochrome printing (single color, grayscale), we think laser printer. Monochrome laser printer has been known for doing fast and low cost monochrome printing for years.
Read on to learn what’s great about Epson monochrome inject printers.
What’s great about Epson monochrome inject printers?
Extremely low cost per page — Epson claims that K100 and 200 offer you one of the lowest cost per page (cpp) of any printer at only RM0.03 (USD$0.01), which is up to 70% lower than toner used by laser printers.
Built-in duplexer — Both K100 and K200 has built-in duplexer to help you save money by printing on both sides of the paper.
High laser-like speed — Epson new monochrome inkjet printers could print as fast as laser printers in default mode at 16 pages per minute (ppm).
Epson DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — the ink used by the new printers produce ultra-sharp text that’s comparable to laser quality. Prints are also smudge, fade and water-resistant.
Build-in Ethernet — Epson K100 and K200 build-in Ethernet allows you to share the printer on a computer network.
Lower power consumption — compared to laser printer, Epson K100 and K200 uses far less power.
Epson K100 and K200 retail prices
Epson K100 retail price in Malaysia is RM438 (USD$145). Epson K200 with scanning feature cost RM598 (USD$198). Both printer use two Epson 137 ink cartridges and an estimated page yield of 1000 pages each. The double pack Epson 137 ink cost RM66 (USD$22).
My two cents
I only bought laser printers in the past years: Brother HL-2070N (review) and Dell 1320n (review) because I seldom print color documents and I love the speed and sharp text of laser printing.
Though the printers are not exactly cheap, they are only about RM100 cheaper than other brands of laser printers (without built-in duplexer). But the ink cartridge is way cheaper than laser toner (RM200+, 1500 pages).
Epson K100 and K200 may be the new choice for people who want fast and low cost monochrome printing. What do you think?
