[Update] My two cents

I am not sure if the “old” Windows and MS Office are currently cheaper than the “new” Windows Vista and Office 2007. If the prices are about the same, I recommend you straightly get the full version of new softwares, which will be launched in Malaysia at Feb 2007. I am the believer of “Clean install is more stable than Upgrade install” for Windows platform.

  2. LiewCF, I think you’re a bit out of date. The Express Upgrade program is launched back in October 2006. Although it’s still available now, but on the day you wrote this article, Windows Vista and Office 2007 have been launched, why would you spend money to buy old products, and again will spend money to get the “free upgrade” delivered to you? Please don’t mislead consumer who believe in you.

  3. @My Digital Life: Sorry, if you think this post is misleading. Of course, I recommend new PC user straightly get the new softwares instead of old one.

  4. Well, it’s not really old pc, they are new but with old OS, the price are cheaper with this, i checked from a shop to another.., and you won’t believe how much paper i brought that i brought home, lo, it’s like back from PC fair or something, lol..

There are limitations though. When i asked about free upgrade, some shops says promotion ended.. They have ready built PC with Vista though, and most the OS is running Vista Home basic..

Goodness, My XP PRO SP2 has whats home basic could offer.., for god’s sake, my media player is 11.. The salesman says is upgradeable to Premium or Business, it cost about 400 for premium and 488 for business.., thats for desktop.., but there are also some cheap desktop with upgradeable

As for Free upgrade, it’s limits to certain brands only.., Acer, HP/Compaq, .. and funny, Dell wasn’t there.., neither of its notebook or desktop..

Let say you buy an Acer notebook running XP PRO/MCE, you will be eligible to redeem free upgrade. And you won’t believe it, many of the XP PRO capable notebook seems downgraded to XP Home.., as XP Home doesn’t provide free upgrade to Vista..

Back to the topic, after you got the notebook, you will have to register at http://www.windowsupgradeanytime.com , fill in the form online ad etc, later within 2 months, Microsoft will send you the Vista CD for free, thats right, Vista for FREE right from the US, lol..

I asked about driver support, they guaranteed that will work very well in Vista.. Hmm.., i wonder..

Anyhow, one thing is, i felt that the hw price is not worth it.., eventually the price will go down after CNY, but Vista might be pricey at that time..

  5. buying old then installing new? i have windows vista all i gotta say is it sucks i used windows xp since it came out i have vista on a aleinware laptop and i tried to switch vista to xp and i got “error’s”
