What is GSC D-BOX Motion Seat? [Review]

I received GSC movie invitation for bloggers to watch the movie “Penguins of Madagascar” with Dolby Atmos & D-BOX motion seat.
GSC D-BOX was first launched in August 2014 at GSC 1U (Hall 3). It is now also available in GSC Pavilion KL in November 2014.
What is D-BOX?
Have you ever try theme park rides with motion seats, which the seats move while you are watching a short clips? D-BOX motion seat is something like that but with subtle, precise and immerse motion technology.
D-BOX is make up with 3 main components: D-BOX Motion Code, electronic interface and motion system. Motion designers create D-BOX Motion Code file for each movie on frame-by-frame basis. Each frame can have multiple later of movement and vibrations (up to 42 tracks).
Every D-BOX seat has a weight sensor to activate only after you sit on it. Each seat is linked to the D-BOX system to synchronize movements with the on-screen action, such as subtle pitch, roll and heave, up and down, right or left, front to back, and even vibration!

D-BOX experience
Once step in GSC theater, you will notice few rows of black colour D-Box motion seats at the best seat location in the theater (upper center).
I am 180cm tall and weight 89KG, I feel comfortable in D-BOX seat. It has plenty of legroom for my long legs, the seat is also wider than normal seats.
Each D-BOX seat has a cup holder at the left hand side and an adjustable level control at the right hand side. The level control allows you to adjust the seat’s motion strength. It will be reset to middle level at the beginning of movie.
You do not get a safety belt on D-BOX seats, but don’t worry! You won’t fall out the seat. The maximum level is recommended to experience D-BOX motion true power! In case you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, you can turn off D-BOX motion anytime.
It would be annoying if the seat’s motion is slower or faster than the movie’s action. Good news is that D-BOX motion syncs seamlessly and flawlessly.
As a first timer, I thought someone kicking my seat when my seat vibrates, then I realize that it is a D-BOX motion.
After understand the fact, I was enjoy the new and interesting movie watching experience. I was ice sliding along with the “Penguins of Madagascar”, and I felt the vibration on my seat when bomb exploded.
I would recommend you to watch action movies in D-BOX format for best motion experience. Some upcoming D-BOX movies at GSC are:
- The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies – December 18, 2014
- Night at The Museum: Secret of the Tomb – December 25, 2014
