Just a day before the Valentine’s Day 2013, Apple dropped the price of MacBook Pro with Retina Display and boost the processor speed. Also, you can save few hundred bucks by buying the 2012 old stock.

All the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display (from here I refer them as “MBP Retina”) get CPU speed boost by 0.1GHz, except that 13-inch MBP Retina with 128GB flash keep the same processor speed. 15-inch MBP Retina with 512GB flash also get RAM upgrade from 8GB to 16GB.

New Prices of MacBook Pro with Retina (Feb 2013 version)

In Malaysia, the new 13-inch MBP Retina with 128GB is RM700 cheaper (was RM5299), the new price is RM4599. 13-inch MBP Retina with 256GB now is RM5299, that’s RM900 cheaper than previous RM6199 price! However, no price drop for 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina models.

  • 13-inch 2.5GHz 128GB – RM4599 (was RM5299)
  • 13-inch 2.6GHz 256GB – RM5299 (was RM6199, 0.1GHz faster CPU)
  • 15-inch 2.4GHz 256GB – RM6799 (same price, 0.1GHz faster CPU)
  • 15-inch 2.7GHz 512GB – RM8699 (same price, 0.1GHz faster CPU, RAM upgraded from 8GB to 16GB)

Buy cheaper MBP with Retina (old version) from Apple resellers

You can now shop the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display on Apple Store. Malaysia local Apple resellers haven’t started selling the new version yet. But they are clearing the old 2012 MBP Retina stocks at even cheaper prices. Here are the new prices published by Machines on facebook:

  • 13-inch 2.5GHz 128GB (MD212ZP/A) – RM4599 (same as new price)
  • 13-inch 2.5GHz 256GB (MD213ZP/A) – RM4899 (RM400 cheaper than new price)
  • 15-inch 2.3GHz 256GB (MC975ZP/A) – RM6499 (RM300 cheaper)
  • 15-inch 2.6GHz 512GB (MC976P/A) – RM7799 (RM900 cheaper)

Please note that these are older version of MacBook Pro with Retina Display (2012 models). Double check the model code when you are buying. Limited while stock last.

LiewCF’s Buying Advice

We love product price drop. Maybe the new prices reflects the lower manufacture cost. Who cares?

I bet you won’t notice the 0.1GHz different in performance. I can’t help but to think the new processors are selected to overclock to new speed.

Before you rush to grab the new cheaper & (slightly) faster MBP with Retina, I shall remind you that new Apple notebook models are expected to be coming in next few months (June 2013?).

If you really want a MBP with Retina now, I would recommend you to consider the 2012 model instead. They are same (ok, 0.1GHz slower) but much cheaper!
