Red Hat, Inc, the world’s leading open source solutions provider, announced the official opening of Red Hat Malaysia Sdn Bhd in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 29, 2015.

Red Hat Malaysia starts operations in 2006 aims to help cultivate a healthy open source environment in Malaysia. The Red Hat Malaysia office will better serve customers and strengthen partner ecosystem in Malaysia.

TEDxKL 2013 invited 11 speakers with different expertise from different countries:

  • Peter Sage – the founder of Space Energy, a multi-million dollar project focuses on the generation and transmission of clean energy and commercialisation of Space-Based Solar Power.
  • Antony Evans – launched a Kickstarter campaign to create Glowing Plants, putting forward the idea of replacing street lamps with glowing foliage.
  • Red Hong Yi – Malaysian-born architech who was inspired to create art using everyday materials she found in China as her medium. Her work has been featured by Huffington Post, Wall Street Journal, ABC, CNN and NBC.
  • Gopi Sekhar – a veteran with over 27 yeras’ experience in Trading, Rubber and Palm Oil processing. He spent the last decade with specific involvment in rubber technology ,development of processing technologies and application solutions.
  • Ee Soon Wei – the family patriarch of the Royal Press, a printing company founded in 1938. He is on a mission to revive and enliven the beautiful dusty printing haven.
  • Jonathan Buford – founder of Makible which enables digital manufacturing by developing 3D printing and related technology for people to create, design and build products.
  • Zung – an award winning international photographer with shoots of the family of the Prime Minister, royalties, Donald Trump, Dalai Lama, Andrea Bocelli. Personal and official photographer for Anthony Robbins since year 2009.
  • Rizal van Geyzel – stand-up comedian, gas been billed “The Future of Malaysian Stand-up Comedy in Malaysia” by Harith Iskander.
  • Kosal Khiev – poet, tattoo artist, survivor of the US prison system. Represented Cambodia as a Cultural Olympiad for the London games last summer. Awarded for Best Poem Performance on Film at the Berlin ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival 2012.
  • Cheryl Tan & Az Samad – vocalist Cheryl Tan and guitarist Az Samad wanted to showcase music that was exclusively buatan Malaysia. Their repertoire spans from vintage pop to recent hits, from P. Ramlee classics to musical theatre and even art music.

Microsoft’s Surface RT to Launch in Malaysia

Microsoft Malaysia has confirmed that Surface RT will be released in Malaysia on 25 April 2013. Free giveaways will be given to the first 300 customers at the launch event.

After months of waiting, Microsoft Surface RT will finally be available in Malaysia from 25 April 2013. It was released in USA on October 26, 2012. Still, Microsoft did not release Surface RT at the Windows 8 launch in Asiac Pacific in December 2012.

“We’re incredibly thrilled that Malaysians will soon be able to experience a new category of devices firsthand, beginning with Surface RT,” said Carlos Lacerda, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia.

Surface RT launch event

Surface RT will be launched in Malaysia on the evening of 25 April 2013 (Thursday) at Publika Shopping Gallery, Kuala Lumpur. The first 300 customers at the launch event will receive free giveaways worth at least RM300.

In conjunction with the launch party, Microsoft has some great activities lined up including special appearances by Mizz Nina, DJ Ben of Fly FM and the ELECOLDXHOT dance crew.

Surface RT will also be available through selected stores nationwide from Challenger Malaysia, Harvey Norman, and Thunder Match Technology.

What is Surface RT?

Surface RT is Microsoft branded 10.6-inch tablet running Windows RT operating system (can install Windows Store apps only). It is powered by 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and 2GB RAM.

Surface RT available in 32GB or 64GB storage capacity, however, up to 16GB used by system software. You can add storage space using the microSDXC card slot. It also includes a full-size USB port.

Office Home & Student 2013 RT (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote apps) is free and pre-installed for Surface RT.

Dual cameras, both are 1.2 MegaPixel. Battery life is up to 8 hours. Surface RT weight 680g.

How much?

Microsoft Malaysia hasn’t revealed the official Surface RT price in Ringgit Malaysia yet. However, Surface RT 32GB is USD499 (RM1500)  and USD599 (RM1800) for 64GB version in USA. The optional touch cover cost USD100.

The Crowd at the Maxis iPhone 5 Launch Day

Maxis iPhone 5 launch event was held at CapSquare Mall, Kuala Lumpur in the 13rd December night. LiewCF was one of the invited media to witness the Maxis iPhone 5 launch in the midnight (14th December).

This year venue is smaller than last year’s KLCC (iPhone 4S launch). Rooms and halls are temporarily made for the event. Anyhow, Maxis still received mass response from the media and customers.
