Gmail Space is 3GB and Increasing

Gmail: Google Webmail ServiceAfter 3 years of launching, Gmail space is 3GB now.

Gmail started the “Infinity+1” storage plan at April 2005 to give growing email storage space to users. The counter had been slowed down after reaching 2GB.

Now, Gmail decided to speed up the counter to give out more free storage. The increasing rate is about 1.5KB per second, and Gmail space is over 3GB.

If you are storage hungry, you can purchase Google Storage. Google is now giving more space at the same price.

On the other hand, Google Apps users will get storage boost for their Gmail accounts too. Standard and Education Edition storage (now at 2GB) will begin matching Gmail’s counter, and Premier Edition users get 25GB (up from 10GB).

My two cents

Although Google is the 1st gigabyte free webmail, Yahoo! Mail had offer unlimited email storage in March 2007.

The changes are necessary. We have become more storage-hungry nowadays. I myself used over 2GB of Gmail space. By the way, Gmail counter shows over 3172MB but my Gmail space is only 3107MB?

  1. I’m glad that GMail space is increasing again, I was starting to get to the limit and had started deleting emails to avoid running out of space – which was going against Google’s initial selling point of GMail!

Obviously it’s not quite as good as Yahoo’s offer, but at least Google are responding to our needs.

  2. Wow, you reached the max? I am still keeping up the pace with it.

Anyway, I wonder when they can increase their attachment limit. Increasing storage is good but as an user, I always want more. :-P

  3. my gmail is only at 7%……… in addition to the two other gmail accounts I have, which have used 0%…..

I also have hotmail, yahoo mail account….. too much…..already….

  4. It’s increasing alright…. now my gmail account is at 3577MB……

But in my opinion, I would like to see more features, rather than more storage….. since there is already too much……. if you have multiple email accounts….

  5. don’t think google needs much psychological thingy…. since they are the first to start it…….. they just need to roll out features that the others don’t have……

  6. yeah. everybody loves the google brand. but remember, yahoo is quietly improving its free email services. competition is most welcomed (for us consumers) that is.

  7. yahoo mail isn’t working well for me right now…… lots of stuff seems broken at th e moment……. and the interface isn’t very efficient…. at least Hotmail’s has improved with Live Hotmail….. still, Gmail still rules…
