How to Merge Windows Live Messenger Contacts with Skype Account
Microsoft have decided to kill 12-year-old Windows Live Messenger (WLM, was known as MSN Messenger) in all countries worldwide in the first quarter of 2013, except China. Existing Messenger users are encouraged to migrate to Skype, their contacts will be merged. Currently, Skype has around 280 million monthly active users. The merge will add Messenger’s 100 million+ users to Skype.

I seldom sign in Windows Live Messenger nowadays. Probably because I am on Mac, or because my WLM friends are no longer active (Thanks to Facebook!). The contacts merge is simple and easy.
I am not surprise to see Microsoft kill Messenger and move the user base to Skype. Skype is the Microsoft’s answer to the Google Talk, and Apple’s iMessenger + Facetime! On the recently launched Microsoft Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, Skype runs in background and works like your phone calls.
Skype will be huge!

Typo error??? It should be “first quarter of 2013″…
yes, thank you :)
Good info, I wonder if Skype will have an update which will support the emotions that are used in WLM.
Many people are sticking to WLM because of the emoticons, especially the customization of it.
Skype supports some emoticons but not as many as WLM.
I have a @msn.com account and can’t seem to log in. Any ideas?
can you login WLM using your @msn.com account? Did you receive any error message?
My WLM works perfectly. Hotmail works perfectly. When logging into skype it does not recognize the username/password combination.
I can’t log in also. Using my @live account, it tells me “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again”. :/
Cool tips. Thank for sharing. Will give it a try later on… ;)
my messenger contact didn’t merge to my skype after installing the new version of Skype..
any way to fix it?
thanks
I’ve installed Skype and logged in under Microsoft Account yet for some reason I have no contacts. My contacts from Windows Live Messenger didn’t merge over.
How can I merge my contacts or import my contacts from Windows Live Messenger into Skype?
I can’t seem to mere my Skype account and windows account it keeps on saying Oops…there was a problem.. =S
Are your Skype and Windows Live Messenger both latest version?
Skype really stinks….Everyone, do not waste your time trying to transfer your Windows Live E-mail contacts to Skype. These pathetic idiots from Microsoft simply NEVER intended to create an effective method to do it when they bought Skype. Cheers
