Event: Nokia Lumia Windows Phone Launch in Malaysia [Photos]
On 10 Feb 2012, I attended the Nokia Lumia launch event in Malaysia which was held at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Read on for the details with photos and video.
The queue
The launch time was 5:30pm but I was there early and there was already a 100+ queue waiting to get their Nokia Lumia. The 1st in the queue was there since 6am, that’s 12 hours waiting!
Free gifts
The first 100 who purchased Nokia Lumia 800 got free Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset and Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse and Nokia premium, all worth up to RM1000.
The Nokia VIPs
Nokia Lumia launch event was started by a surprise flashmob dancing. Then followed by a scooter team, which led a black truck with Nokia Lumia demo units and VIPs.
First Nokia Lumia customer
Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 sold like hot cakes. 100 Lumia 800 was sold out in about 30 minutes. The Nokia centers inside Pavillion also had sold out all Nokia Lumia smartphones in the evening!

Nokia Lumia 800 has 3.7 inch AMOLED ClearBlack curved display and powered by 1.4GHz processor. 8MP Carl Zeiss optics and HD video playback. 16GB internal storage. Preload Internet Explorer 9 and Nokia Drive. Available in 3 colours (cyan, magenta and black). The recommended retail price is RM1650.

Nokia Lumia 710 specs
Nokia Lumia 710 is powered by the same 1.4 GHz processor as the Nokia Lumia 800. Preload Internet Explorer 9 and Nokia Drive. Available in black and white with black, white, cyan, fuchsia and yellow back covers. Recommended retail price ar RM999.
My two cents
I like Nokia Lumia 800. The AMOLED ClearBlack curved display is very clear and bright even under bright sunlight. The translation from menu to menu, screen to screen is very smooth. Beautiful body and great camera.
On the other hand, Nokia Lumia 710 feels “plastic” and the CMOS display looks bad if placed beside Lumia 800. However, it uses the same processor as Lumia 800, therefore you can expect the same performance on Lumia 700. If you don’t mind the display and camera quality, Lumia 710 is a budget buy.
