P1’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Lai said consumers and businesses in East Malaysia particularly Kota Kinabalu will soon enjoy the power of 4G broadband by P1. The P1 deployment team has begun rolling out in Kota Kinabalu and by the end of this year expects to cover about 55 percent of households in that city. In line with P1’s mission of Broadband for All, P1 will gradually expand its coverage to Kepayan, Lido, Fortuna, Karamunsing, Menggatal, Likas, Penampang, Pertagas, Inanam, Nosoob, Damai, Kingfisher Park within Kota Kinabalu, to other towns in Sabah and the state of Sarawak.

“Our strategy is to rollout P1 services one location at a time and best manage our deployment resources between East and West Malaysia,” Lai informed. Commenting on the response expected in East Malaysia with regards to P1 4G service and packages, Lai hopes that the service will be a hit in East Malaysia just like its success with West Malaysia friends. P1’s coverage expands to 52 percent of the population as of the end of last year.

“People who know about the best value for money in broadband will know that P1 offers the best value for cost per gigabyte. The easy plug and play method of P1 4G minus the hassle of subscribing to a fixed telephone line for broadband are great plus points to experience P1’s service. What’s also amazing is with P1’s OnePlan™ packages that bundle a fixed modem for home and an on-the-go modem, P1 customers can have the best 4G experience at the best value for money; using the right device for the right purpose,” Lai explained.

In the last three years since P1’s service was introduced in West Malaysia, about 400 000 Malaysians today are enjoying an average of 17GB of data usage per month on P1’s 4G network. The interesting fact is, Malaysians using P1 4G services are already ahead of the forecast by Informa Telecoms & Media on the Asia Pacific monthly average Internet traffic per user in 2012 to be at 12.4GB.

Lai continued, "We are truly excited that East Malaysia will be enjoying the freedom of 4G high speed broadband. Our 4G network is revolutionising the way people communicate and we know this connectivity will be a key communications and technology enabler for many years to come. With P1’s 4G network, we hope to contribute positively to East Malaysia’s economy, especially within the SME business as well as the tourism industry.

“Sabah and Sarawak are blessed with unique wildlife and beautiful landscape. The broadband access can enable international tourists and backpackers much easier navigation and discovery of its natural wonders as well as online promotion of the states’ tourism hotspots. We understand a positive impact broadband access could have on GDP (gross domestic product) and attracting foreign direct investment. It also contributes to promoting national competitiveness by facilitating in a knowledge-based economy and creating knock-on effects in other sectors,” Lai explained.

P1 4G broadband is designed for rapid and wide area deployment that serve as the best solution for cost-effective broadband access, especially in suburban and rural areas within geographically diverse locations like Sabah and Sarawak.

“P1 will continue investing into its network, in both capacity and further coverage as well as in delivering highly innovative and state of the art product and services alongside with P1’s unique brand experience,” Lai concluded.
