Top 10 Most Popular YouTube Ads in Malaysia (Jan-June 2015)

Google Malaysia released the latest YouTube Ads leaderboard for the first half of 2015. The list represents the top 10 video ads on Youtube with best performance, a combination of popularity and promotion.

Looking at the top 10 YouTube Ads in Malaysia (below), you will notice some trends from this half-year leaderboard.

  • Seizing the moment. With Chinese New Year fall within the six-month period, no surprise that 5 out of 10 of them are related to the festival. 4 of them (Malaysia Airlinnes, Hotlink, Maxis, Tenaga National) tell great, emotional stories around the theme of family, homecoming and nostalgia.
  • Longer video. 7 of the 10 ads are over 30 seconds. 3 ads past 7 minute mark and longest one is close to 12 minute. This shows that YouTube viewers will engage with longer videos from brands, as long as there is a compelling, emotional pull.
  • Cinematic quality. YouTube advertisers took time and effort to record high quality ads like a short film with story. Malaysia Airlines recorded their videos in 6K ultra-high resolution!

  1. Malaysia Airlines BLESSINGS, A Malaysian story – #keepflying – Chinese New Year 2015 short film (11:52)
  2. Hotlink Hotlink 恭喜發財: Grannies Sing Ohhsome Hotlink CNY Song! (2:46)
  3. MaxisMaxis CNY 2015 TVC #ThisIsMyName (3:47)
  4. TescoTesco #Ongmali 2015 CNY Commercial (0:48)
  5. Tenaga NationalShare the Lights – Tenaga Nasional / TNB – Chinese New Year / CNY 2015 (2:00)
  6. Nestle Koko KrunchNestle Koko Krunch | Watch the Minions get up to their usual mischief! (0.20)
  7. Honda2015 All-New Honda HR-V – See Amazing From Every Angle (TVC) (0.30)
  8. Knife刀标油感人短片 – 加油 | Add Oil – A short film by Knife (10.00)
  9. SamsungRoad To Ramlee – Episode 2: Ragam Ujibakat (Audition Antics) (8.21)
  10. 11street11street: “WE MEET AGAIN” starring Lee Min Ho and Emily Chan (0.30)

These ads show the amazing creativity in the Malaysian ads industry. Digital video ads free up brands and agencies to spend more time getting creative and leaving computers to figure out the hard stuff like when and where to show an ad.

Unboxing vivo X5Pro Smartphone in Malaysia [Video]

vivo X5Pro smartphone

vivo X5Pro is the smartphone launched at vivo Grand Launch Malaysia 2015. This is an unbox article to show you what you will get for RM1,599 vivo X5Pro smartphone.

What’s in the box?

It is a white colour hardcover box with minimize design. You see a big “X5Pro” on top of it and “vivo” logo on sides. Opening the box from the top to reveal the carefully wrapped X5Pro smartphone.

Take out the phone and removes its tray, you see a paper box containing SIM removal, quick start guide, warranty card in Malay language, and–surprise!–a frosted case for the phone. The free frost case is a good bonus for X5Pro owners.

The bottom of the packaging box are square shape rounded corners USB power adapter (output: 5V/2A), microUSB cable and vivo XE600i in-ear headphones.

The vivo XE600i in-ear headphones worth about RM96 (RMB158) if you buy it separately. Its specs are better than Mi headphones on paper:

  • Frequency rage: 20Hz-22000Hz
  • Nominal impedance: 16ohm
  • Sensitivity: 110db
  • Cable length: 1.25m

That’s all you get in vivo X5Pro box. Did I mention that all of them are white colour?

First impression

vivo X5Pro has a thin flat body with double-sided “2.5D” glass panels and metal frame. The curved edges are smooth and improve grip in your hand. Sadly, the “2.5D” glass looks nothing more than another glass panel for me.

The three capacitive buttons at the front are not backlight. The bottom has two grill holes, one for speaker and another one for mic. It looks awkward familiar from this viewing angle (hint: iPhone 6).

The volume rocker, power/sleep button and SIM/microSD card slot are on the right side. You will have to sacrifices an SIM slot to install a microSD memory card. The opposite side of the phone is clean.

The 13MP rear camera is located at the top left corner at the back with single LED flash beside it. The camera bump is small, but you will wish it is as flat as the phone’s glass surface. Good to know that the camera is covered by a sapphire glass protecting it from scratches.

vivo X5Pro runs Funtouch OS 2.1 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, but the user interface looks more like iOS than Android. For example, it does not use Android recent apps listing and app drawer. And, you swipe from phone’s bottom to reveal quick settings and recent apps icons.

As a result, it will be a learning curve for both iPhone and Android users.

vivo X5Pro specifications

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core 1.5GHz
  • Storage: 2GB RAM + 16GB storage (support up to 1288GB microSD card using SIM2 slot)
  • Operating system: Funtouch OS 2.1 (Android 5.0 Lollipop)

Overall, the vivo X5Pro unbox experience and first impression are good but not outstanding. LiewCF’s review of vivo X5Pro is coming soon. Please sign up LiewCF Newsletter to read the review in your email inbox!

Aspire Switch 10 E features textile pattern on the top cover and underside to prevent scratches, fingerprints and provides better grip.

The 2-in–1 is powered by Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core processor and 2GB DDL3L RAM. It runs full version Windows 8.1 and free upgrade to Windows 10 when it is ready. Also, you get free Microsoft Office 365 Home & Students license with every Aspire Switch 10 E.

For connectivity, the tablet part of Aspire Switch 10 E has a microUSD memory card reader, headphone/speaker jack, micro HDMI port, a micro USD 2.0 port. The dock has a normal size USB 2.0 port.
