The First Check from Kontera
I received the first check from Kontera Technologies Inc for the in-text advertisements on LiewCF.com while I was away for fun.
I joined the Kontera ContentLink program few months ago, it is a contextual advertisement which turns keyword on web page into a link in real time. When you mouse-over the link, a tool tip layer will pop-up with relevant advertising information. Publishers get paid on a Cost-Per-Click basis.

Setting up Kontera ContentLink is as easy as placing a Javascript block on your web page. Everything else is automated. For advanced publishers, you can customize the ContentLink link color, control over keyword, advertiser, and topics, ContentLink area placement, and text filter.
My two cents
Kontera ContentLink ad is out performing than I expected. It is one of my best performing ad programs now. It is “set and forget it”. But your site need to have certain traffic in order to enroll the program. Also, your readers might find the ad layer annoying. Visit Kontera for more information.

Congrats ! :p
I’m one of those readers who are not big fans of Kontera.
I strongly believe that a lot of the Kontera clickers think that they are clicking on ‘real links’.
Because of your rep, readers of your blog trust you to link to the best places.
Having ‘fake’ links which you don’t endorse individually but allow on the site may violate the social contract between the reader and the blogger
FriedBeef gets the point. Kontera is alright for people who know what they are, but it could be annoying for users who thought that’s a real link by the blogger. Most of the times Kontera will link out to a search engine and that’s not what the user want. I’ve removed Kontera on my blog just days ago after I reach my first $100, and will not continue anymore.
cool thing that i never touch.
thanks for the info.
congrats to a new source of income
I agree with FriedBeef and VincentChow. In the end, the disadvantages may outweigh the gains. Regular readers will get used to it and stop clicking it, while some may even avoid clicking links in the article all together. I think the best approach is to ask your readers and observe your stats.
Let not immediate gains blind you from long term goals.
Congrats! I got couple dollar on kontera. Just start from last month.
wah……
Congratulations Mr. LiewCF, i had also joined kontera too and put it on my other blog but still haven’t got check yet. I wonder why? LOL……..
Keep up the good work……
I think kontera really do the tricks when I saw my non-technie sis clicking kontera ads in mobile88 web site.. she thought it’s normal links until I told her about it.. ;)
It great to have multiple source of income. Even though I also have kontera ads install on my blog, but sometimes I get annoyed with those ads.
I’m curious about the cost per click for kontera…?!!! The value per click is too small…I wonder why? It’s not as good as compared to my adsense?!!
Any idea? experience….
I’ve just got my kontera activated today. anticipating… to receive the excitement of “check”.
LCF, I though you have earn many times from it :)
So many negative comments on Kontera. I had it on my site but removed it because it violated terms of my PayPerPost sponsored posts.
Why they DO send a check after all! I’ve been with Kontera for 3 months and made nearly $200 and still waiting for my check. I think they’re okay except for the terrible reporting and user admin – practically nothing you can control…
can u bank in cheon fong liew payee cheques?
@Paul Tan: Yes, surname in front or behind name doesn’t matter.
Looks like Kontera is a good earner. BUT i think its a very annoying form of advertising so I will not be adding it to my blog.
Hi, I am new to Konera, may I know if they do offer referral program?
Weird right now my eCPM is actually higher on kontera than on adsense. I must be doing something right with kontera or something very wrong with adsense.
Lcf,
I have just signed up for Kontera, waiting for the approval,
will share my thoughts if they approve my website
thanks for sharing all the info and experience about Kontera,

I have applied for their account I hope they will approve my site. Do someone knows in how much days they reply. Compared to adsense how this program performs.
Just joined Kontera and at this moment im tryin researching it and ended up on this webpage.
Don’t know if it would affect the quality of our online magazine ( http://www.121mag.com )…but any additional info would be welcomed.
Is it possible to place Kontera links in Newsletters??? does anyone know if it is allowed?
In my experience, Kontera is one the worst of the partners we’ve ever had. Right now they are tanking with pay outs down over 60% this year. They have very poor targeting. They ran Ford truck ads on our movie site that upset our readers. On top of that they are short on inventory and even if you have the traffic they cannot pay for it. We found them to be pretty sneaky. When we threatened to leave about the above problems, they scrambled to give us a better rev share, but they shorted us on inventory. We got paid less than before on more traffic. Finally when we demanded they let us out of agreement for the reasons above, they refused and will not send our final payments.
Do yourself a favor. Sign up with Chitika or Vibrant Media. You’ll get a good rate, targeted ads your readers appreciate and as much inventory as you can sell.
