Chinese New Year 2006
How was your Chinese New Year (CNY) 2006? Have you come back to the office? I had a great time during the last few days. For many people, CNY is about ang paw (read: money), gambling, and firecrackers (even it is illegal in Malaysia…). To me, CNY is about gathering among family and friends.
Family
Our relatives are not in Johor, therefore CNY is only a gathering among internal family members. On every Chinese New Year Eve, we will have steamboat. It is the tradition of our family. Before getting the ang paw from my parents, we are required to report our yearly plans to Dad. It is not easy to get ang paw from my dad. :P
Talking about ang paw, we usually do not get as many ang paw as the others because we are not living near our relatives. My highest ang paw collection rate is not more than 10.
Gambling is a “common activitiy” during CNY but not for my family. We don’t gamble, even during CNY. It is barred. Therefore, our CNY activities are only watching TV (Thanks to Astro) and eating snacks. I think I gained some weight again…
Friends
Chinese New Year holiday is the only time I get to meet most of my old friends, ex-schoolmates and ex-collegemates. I met many primary schoolmates who lost contact with me for many years. That’s great!
Every year we have a friendship gathering at a friend’s house and we would get updated on the latest information about each others. We did more than that this year, we had dinner together.

It is really great to know them! :D
My two cents
These few days, a group of bald head uncles are popular because they were caught for gambling during CNY. Their pictures are on newspapers’ front page for two days! I feel shame for them. Chinese New Year should not only be about gambling and “Fat Cai” (strike rich). In my opinion, we are celebrating Chinese New Year because we have survived another year. That’s why we say “Gong Xi” (congrats) to each other. :)
Gong Xi! Gong Xi!
P/S: My Adsense income revealed highest daily income record on the first day of Chinese New Year 2006. It is a good beginning, huh? :D
