First Bid in eBay

Mac OS X : The Missing Manual, Tiger Ed (Missing Manual)I just placed my first bid in eBay. I am bidding for “Mac OS X : The Missing Manual, Tiger Ed (Missing Manual)” (No choice, need to study on the new OS).

Table of Contents

The book

Mac OS X : The Missing Manual, Tiger Ed (Missing Manual)” is highest ranked Mac OS X book among others, it get a full 5 star award from 27 customer reviews!

Here is one of the customer review:

For those that (who) are coming from a Microsoft Windows environment there is a nice section on Windows keyboard commands and how they translate into Mac keyboard commands. It also covers things that you are used to seeing in Windows like Control Panel, My Computer, Network places, modem properties and other things and what their equivalents are in Mac. Basic UNIX is also covered as it applies to the terminal session. It also talks about the reasoning behind going to the Intel processor.

There are a lot of great books covering Tiger but I think that this is the best that I have seen. I pre ordered this book four months ago and it was worth the wait.

In summary this is a great book for all levels of end user for the truly novice (just came from Windows) users to the advanced user. The books intended audience is not stated but this is a book that is a 5 star book for the novice to intermediate user and a 4 star book for the advanced user.

This is almost the-must-have book for Mac user huh?

The eBay bid

It is a new book, the seller bought it but never read it (why does he buy the book in the first place?). The seller is a high ranked eBay seller with 100% positive feedback from few hundreds persons (How does he does it!?).

The item does not shipping to Malaysia. I send him an email and he agree to fit the book in a flat rate envelope for USD14.00. Consider the current low bid of the book, it is still worth to spend USD14.00 for the shipping (shipping fee is much higher than the book itself!).

Why do not buy from local bookstore?

There is no bookstore in my place selling the book. I checked MPH and Kinokuniya, they are selling over RM100 and it is not the latest third edition (Tiger). Plus, I have few hundred USD in my PayPal account. eBay is a good place to spend them. ;)

eBay widget

In order to keep my eyes on the eBay bidding item, I install the eBay widget.

It now collects information from the “My eBay” page. Anything you are bidding on or watching in My eBay will now show up in the widget automatically. Prices in green indicate that you are winning, while prices in red indicate you are losing . The bidding screen also shows you your max bid in addition to the columns shown above.

Note: Remember to sign in via Safari and tick “Always sign me in” in eBay login form.

Thought: I am digging the fun of online bidding. I am making a list of items to bid on eBay. Oh no!

My mom does not trust online sell/buy. She believes on “Cash and Carry” only. Let’s hope my successful online bidding will change her mind. :)
