Google Maps Direction: Swim across the Atlantic Ocean

The “Get direction” feature of Google Maps is very useful to learn how to go from a place to another. However, you are advised not to follow the Google Maps direction blindly, especially from Altanta to Paris. ;)

You goto Google Maps UK and get directions from “Altanta” to “Paris, France”. Everything looks fine at this point, you get the map and the direction. But you notice there is a very long path across the Atlantic Ocean.

“Maybe I should take a flight to cross over the ocean”, you guess. However, when you look into the left sidebar at #17, you notice that you have to “Swim across the Atlantic Ocean” and the distance is 3,462 mi (~5,571.5 km) .

Gotcha! You have to be a very good swimmer (or dophin?) to travel from Altanta to Paris. :D

P.S. We believe that it is an easter egg joke by Google OR Google developers are mermaid.

  1. Google is suggesting that we should save the environment. Instead of using public transportation, we should all swim across :-)

  2. I don’t see how all of the google develops can be on mermaid:P Mermaids plural perhaps? :) Yes, I’m one of those annoying people who pick at people’s grammar :)
