Mozilla Thunderbird: Remove Duplicated Email Messages

I am a Mozilla Thunderbird fan, it is my daily email client. Sometimes I receive duplicated email messages whenever the Internet connection is bad (disconnect & reconnect). One or two redundant messages might not a problem, but what if you received hundreds of duplicated emails, mixed with your messages in the Inbox?

There is a Thunderbird extension called “Remove Duplicate Messages” specially designed to solve the problem.

Features:

  • Checks subfolders as well
  • View results in the main view
  • An option to make manual changes to the messages before deleting.
  • Multilingual support
  • Easy to use and fast (1000 messages per second).
  • Automatic deleting (no dialog showing duplicates)
  • Options such as to keep the bigger, smaller, unread or first/last found messages.

My two cents

The Remove Duplicate Messages extension works very well. It has removed hundreds of duplicated messages from my Inbox (automatic delete). The only problem I found was that the Remove Duplicate Messages window cannot be moved. It blocks the selected message in the main view.

  1. i have this duplicate email problem too… but only with my streamyx mail.

i’m using eudora 7. i also check my jaring email (which presently is my primary one, before switching to streamyx as primary) and flashmail email from eudora, and there are no duplcate emails. strange, it is only streamyx mails that comes in duplicate. wonder why.

at one time i did consider switching from eudora to thunderbird. thunderbird allows multiple email accounts right? does thunderbird also has a spam checker? i mean like it auto move mails it consider spam to the spam box. is the size of thunderbird much more than eudora?

  2. yes, thunderbird allows multiple email accounts and build in spam checker. Thunderbird has smaller setup file than Eudora.
