Why Are You Seeing LiewCF.com Ads?

Most of you have discovered that LiewCF.com is advertising using Google AdWords on some local websites. Mossism.net, the PPS Blog and Shaolin Tiger have also blogged about it. Why did I do that? Does it bring me more site traffic and revenue? Let me tell you about it.

Which websites get LiewCF.com’s ad?

I am running the Adwords campaign on a few local websites. Here is the list:

  • petalingstreet.org
  • jeffooi.com
  • kahsoon.com
  • star-techcentral.com (yes, the Star TechCentral)

Besides, I also bought an Adbrite space on kennysia.com this morning and ShaolinTiger has discovered it. :)

Why do I want to advertise?

The main reason is because I received free Google Adwords coupons a long time ago. It is a waste if I do not use them. Other than that, here are some other reasons:

  • Just for fun — I have always seen others’ ads on my site, so I want to see my own ad on others’ sites too! :P
  • Learning about Adwords — gain knowledge. It might be useful in future.
  • Contribution — the websites with my ad get money.
  • Exposure — let others know about LiewCF.com

How much does it cost?

Through the Adwords campaign, I bid for CPM ads. Meaning, the ad cost is calculated over a 1000 impressions. The more frequent my ad is shown, the more it will cost. Whether you click it or not, I still pay the same rate.

The total cost of the ad campaign until today (been around for a few weeks) is under RM100 (surprised!?) .

Is it effective?

The answer: No, it is not effective, neither traffic nor income.

The total amount of clicks (visitors through ads) I received is only under 200. That is probably due to my choice of less effective wordings and the fact that I am advertise on local sites. :)

Many people think that I was stupid to advertise on PPS because most of PPS’s visitors already know about LiewCF.com. But I consider this my small contribution to PPS.

Using Adwords to increase my Adsense income is not a method that I will mainly use. This trick is only used (and quite effective) at some (highly paid) keyword focused websites. They pay $1 to Adwords to attract traffic and in turn get 10 times of that amount as profit.

My two cents

Some of you thought that I used money to get more money… Maybe you are right (indirectly). I was not thinking about $$ yet. I only thought of getting more traffic and readers but it is proven that the ad campaign is a failure. Well, that’s is normal for an adwords beginner like me. Maybe I should get the book — “Winning Results with Google AdWords” (Andrew Goodman) :)

Based on my experience, the price for Adwords is not as expensive as I thought. By spending a little money, you can have your ads shown on websites of your choice. Most of the time, doing this is less expensive than buying ad space from the websites. Example: The cost for 1 week’s worth of Adbrite ads on PPS is higher than one Adwords campaign.

However, I am only bidding for CPM ads, not keywords. Keywords bidding is different, which I am yet to experience.

  1. I also got $50 worth of Adwords for free. After deduced $10 for activation fee, left $40 for Adwords only. So far, I had started 4 keyword-targeted campaigns. The result is not really effective for my sites.
You have to reviews your campaign frequently and adjust Max CPC value according to the market demand.

  2. Well, I can see why the campaign is a failure. First off, you specifically put the ads on the wrong channel/market. Now that’s a turn off.

Out of four, there’s only 1 channel with max potential of attracting readers, and that’s star tech central – with your ads description being tech oriented.

    petalingstreet.org
    jeffooi.com
    kahsoon.com
    star-techcentral.com

But then again, you’re contributing your revenue back to the community. In that case, I’m a fan of you. :) Keep up the good work.

  3. Hey thanks for sharing, there are few out there who are willing to share in the level of detail you do, and it’s very nice of you to contribute to smaller size, i wish we had bloggers like you here in the Israeli Blogosphere, or in general an Israeli blogoshphere =..

Anyway, keep us up to date if you don’t mind =)
