Google Nexus 7 Tablet in Malaysia
Google Nexus 7 7-inch tablet has officially launched in Malaysia in September 2012 and I was invited to the launch event. In this article, you will learn about the Nexus 7 price in Malaysia, hands-on, and buying advice.
Nexus 7 is powered by the fastest mobile processor, latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 1280×800 IPS display, good battery life, and only weight 340 gram.

Nexus 7 in Malaysia

In U.S., you can buy Nexus 7 8GB at only USD$199 (RM607), but the model is not available in Malaysia. In Malaysia, you can only buy Nexus 7 16GB, price is RM999. Also, no free USD$25 Google Play credit (Ish!).
RM999 for 16GB Nexus 7 is more expensive than in USA (USD$249 / RM760). Is Asus trying to make some profit by selling 16GB model in Asia? There are reports saying Asus is selling Nexus 8GB at a loss.
Regarding Google Play Store, Google has no promise when to open full fledged access (Music, Movies, Books, Magazine) in South East Asia.
Nexus 7 hands-on

The stippled black rubber back cover make the device very nice to hold in hand. There are wide space at the top and bottom of the display (vertical mode), which are good for resting your fingers without activate the touchscreen display.

Nexus 7 has minimum buttons and ports: power button, volume control, headset jack, micro-USB port. No rear camera (1.2MP front-facing camera only), no memory card slot. The display is crisp and bright. System response time is good. Â It is also the lightest 7-inch tablet I tested to date.

LiewCF’s Buying Advice
In short, Nexus 7 is today’s best 7-inch tablet under RM1000, provided you don’t mind the missing rear camera and no stylus pen. It is good for reading, watching videos and playing games.
As an iPad (1st generation) owner, I was considering Nexus 7 8GB as my 2nd tablet because it is cheap, lightweight, fast. I don’t need large storage for music & videos. Too bad, 8GB version is not available in Malaysia.

I think with the release of the 32GB model, replacing the 16GB, it’ll be a better buy. I’ll definitely consider ditching my 8GB I/O model for that one.
Yes, 32GB is more practical than 16GB if you need storage space for music & movies.
Actually, unless you keep files – music and photos – you would hardly need more than 16GB. Bear in mind that Android apps tended to be on the small side. And most of my data is in the cloud.
Why you take a month to upload such a short review? You already had a 8GB version.
This is not a “review”. I don’t have a 8GB version. Will try to get a review unit though.
For the MIA, I was sick. That’s why.
Just a sharing, Newegg Malaysia is selling the 32GB WIFI version of Nexus 7 at RM821 only included shipping fees.
Local ASUS is selling RM999 for the 16GB version.
So it make perfect sense to buy from Newegg Malaysia in my opinion, you can enquire at their Facebook page.
