Sorry, I Cannot Switch to Opera
After using Opera 8.50 for less than 24 hours, I am here to announce that I CANNOT switch to Opera. I am sorry.
Don’t get me wrong. Opera is a good browser. But it is not for a full time blogger like me. There are few issues stop me from switching to Opera.
- Small font size — I am not sure if it is for me only, the Opera shows text in WordPress edit box much smaller than it should be.

WordPress edit box under Opera
WordPress edit box under FirefoxNote: Both are using default font size, I do not change the setting.
- Cannot drag and drop text — this is especially important for me when editing a post, it save the trouble to cut & paste.
- Trouble copy link — Strangely, I always failed to copy a hyperlink in Opera. Right click on link – Copy link address… When I paste, it does not work!?
- Cannot insert text in current position — Also in textarea, Opera seems like does not work with Javascript’s insert text into current position. I click WordPress quicktag button and Opera insert into end of the text, not cursor’s position.
- Cannot expand functionality — Unlike Firefox, Opera does not support third party extensions. Thus the functions is very limited compared to Firefox, which has thousands free extensions.
Thought: Before Opera solved the problems, I think I will still stick with Firefox.

“Cannot expand functionality”
Well, that is because most functionality is built-in. :-)
yeah, sc. But I am spoiled by Firefox extensions, I am greedy!
I add some:
I hate the history pages on the top of the browser.
I can’t find the reload/refresh button! (I know the arrow in circle)
My blog’s width screwed up and I have to keep choosing ‘Fit to width’ or something or else my side bar dropped to the bottom of the long, long page (including my google of course).
And the fonts are way too small, I agree.
So, I am now upgrading to Firefox 1.07 :)
lilian, there’s a fix for that sidebar thing but im no pro.
I switched to Opera mainly because of memory and speed (y’know, on a 233MHz machine w 128MB ram, FF can get REAL slow), also the tab related design is cool. But I really hate the small text thing, not only in edit boxes, also normal text. And I still haven’t figured out how to increase text size except zoom which resizes images and everything.
BUT you definitely can insert text on cursor position: it works here and I’m using opera 8.5.
