Piracy Software in Malaysia Internet marketplaces
Microsoft is digging eBay for pirated software sellers and sue them.
The suits were filed against individuals in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York and Washington. They are an effort to crack down on the amount of piracy taking place on Internet marketplaces, where Microsoft said counterfeit product “abounds.”

How about in Malaysia Internet marketplaces?
Since Malaysia is famous for pirated softwares. I did a simple search using “windows” as keyword at eBay.com.my and Lelong.com.my (both are online bidding websites).
eBay Malaysia
Pirated softwares are easily spotted. The seller even scanned the cd cover pics.
The bids are starting at RM15(USD $4.05). “Buy It Now” price is RM100(USD $27). Considering pirated software is selling at RM5 per piece, it has a very large profit margin!
Please note that Windows XP Media Center Edition is only available pre-installed on PC. Microsoft does not sell it separately.
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is only available pre-installed on computers sold by PC manufacturers. You can purchase a PC with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 pre-installed at retail consumer electronic stores, direct from PC manufacturers, or through online consumer electronics Web sites.

Lelong.com.my
Many Windows OEM licenses are for open bidding but some windows license stickers caught my attention.
Wow! One sticker and turn your pirated software to being licensed?
What a shameful matter…
“Wow! One sticker and turn your pirated software to licensed?”
Yes, it is called Open License. Offered by Microsoft in certain countries (such as Malaysia) only
lets face it, original software is still very expensive for the developing world. imagine paying RM20,000 for an AutoCAD program, RM10,000 for a photoshop CD and many more. it is ridiculous and very expensive, you could buy a car or a house with that kind of money. now imagine you got 2-4 PCs.
be-careful wow…..
This is the beginning of the end of pirated softwares (World Wide). The drive is to recover as much profit as possible. Those who doesn’t pay will have to pay the license or pay the fine (worst, do time in jail).
Those who post pirated software on lelong or ebay will be hunt down like wild stupid rabbit by the authorities. Listing and proof gathering is already underway. Your names are exposed, as bright as the sun, and are tied as clear as the sky to a pirated software.
Those who doesn’t pay will pay else embrace the sucky yucky open source movement and write ur own code, give it away for free (as in dollars and cents or ringgit dan sen).
You all can either go ori before or after you got busted. Either way, pay up. The choice is yours.
BTW, dun buy dual core machines. The Ori OEM OS can’t use both core.
wow! scary…
I heard BSA usually catch company with 3-5 computers and announce the catch to be worth millions..
They basically add up the cost of all the pirated softwares installed on it. and slap u with a fine worth up to that much.
I am not going to buy softwares anymore. I will use FOSS. However, hard it is.
wo… but media center oem is out here in m’sia an all other parts the world an they r legal
I begin to have doubts on the success of e-govt. Given so many pirated software out there, if we are all to stay legal, can u imagine how much $$$ is exported from Malaysia? Can we as a nation really afford it?
