Nufflets – AdWords like Advertising Network from Malaysia

While we were celebrating Christmas 2007, another online advertising network has been launched in Malaysia — Nufflets, a contextual advertising network targeted to Asia market that offers Cost-Per-Click text based advertising.

What is “Nufflets”?

The name Nufflets is kind of a combination of the other 2 online advertising network in Malaysia: Nuffnang and Advertlets.

The Nufflets ads are Cost-Per-Click, you only get paid when there is ad click on your website. Nufflets applies a 50% revenue share and your share will be increased based on your website performance. They do not reveal how to decide the “performance”.

Yes, you can use AdSense and Nufflets on the same web page, as long as the Nufflets ad format is significantly different from AdSense ads.

The currency used on Nufflets is USD. The minimum payout amount is $50 USD, payment method is cheques. For each successful Publisher sign-up, you will be given $5 USD. You will get another $10 USD if you link back to Nufflets at your website.

Asia only

Although Nufflets claims to be “Asia’s Online Advertising Network”, they only accept publishers from Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, China and Japan. To join Nufflets, your website needs to have minimum 3,000 pageviews per month and using own domain name (sorry, no blogspot.com allowed).

Nufflets house served ads

Please note that if there is no ad to serve on your website, Nufflets house served ads will be displayed and it is non-commissionable. It is similar to Google AdSense’s Public Service Ad (PSA) but you cannot remove/hide it on Nufflets.

For Nufflets Advertisers

Nufflets sample adUnlike the two companies, Nufflets only offers contextual text ads. Meaning, it will select the ads based on your website content, similar to Google Adwords program.

The ad setup is also very similar to Google AdWords. You are asked to create your text ad, select countries (Asia only), keywords, and budget. The minimum cost per click for ad is $0.05 USD. No graphic/flash based ads for the moment.

My two cents

I wonder why Nufflets cannot be more creative on its name… The name gives people an impression that it is the “followers” of the other local advertising networks. It is not good.

The contextual advertising in Asia might be a niche market, but Google won’t let go of the big market. Nufflets is now competing with the big brother’s AdWords program in Asia. It is not good.

The minimum 3,000 pageviews per month requirement for publisher is acceptable. If you are advertiser, you won’t want to spend money on low traffic sites. 100 pageviews per day is not that difficult.

However, excluding the websites without own domain name might not be a good idea. There are many quality and high traffic websites not hosted on own domain name. Nufflets have given up the market.

We are not sure how many advertisers in Nufflets network. If they do not have enough advertisers, you will see Nufflet house served ads most of the time, which is wasting your ad space. I would suggest CPM model for the house served ads.

In a nutshell, as a publisher, I will stick with the good and reliable Google AdSense program. Well, Nufflets may be served as an alternative ad network if your website’s main audience are Asians.

Have you tried Nufflets? What do you think?

  1. Compete against Google is a big NO NO, furthermore, I do not think there will be so many advertisers since there are 3 advertising networks before nufflets, so expect to see a lot of repeating ads on those sites who served their ads

  2. Liew, mind to let us know which program you join? Beside Google Adsense, do you join any others Advertisement program?

  3. It is good to see new options although this is only for Asia… maybe the business model is difficult at this time, but later it could be a good business if the advertisers see the restriction to work only with Asian publishers as an advantage because they don’t have to compete with American or European advertisers there. And Asia is a huge market.

  4. only in Malaysia – copy copy copy

for example if tomorrow someone sets up a Nasi Lemak stall near our office, in the following few months – you will new competitors setting up stalls nearby
    – market saturation – too many sellers chasing too few buyers
    – finally all except the original stallholder or the person with the best finances – all the rest will bungkus – close down

even the company name is ROJAK – total copycat – it is a joke

there are still millions of words not used – why steal other company names

can the original two even survive?

  5. i think yes! because they have their own market especially for non-english blogs (publishers) like me, and advertisers/businesses from malaysia. With this specific market, nufflets can do their function and will compete google adsense by narrowing their market segmentation. But they should tell this ‘secret’ to their customers and agents and clearly position themselves why they are unique and different from other advertising networks.

I’ll go for Nufflets, if i am an advertiser, i would go for it too. why? it’s new, less competitor/advertisers and more specific market as I told.

    It’s just my two cents

  6. Note that Google AdWords also support multilingual and select countries you want. I don’t see how Nufflets more advance than AdWords.

  7. LiewCF,

Thanks for the post, and I do accept your two cents. But on your point being that there is no difference between Nufflets and Adwords. There actually is a huge difference.

Advertisers on Nufflets get to enjoy a higher ROI compared to Adwords. Advertisers on Nufflets can spend less in an effective contextual advertising campaign on our network as compared to Adwords.

    How?
The bid prices for keywords on Adwords are definitely higher than Nufflets. Secondly, the network of publishers we have is more controlled, although our network isnt really small, but at the same time it isnt really big compared to Adwords. Therefore the spread of contextual advertising is hoped to be displayed over quality websites throughout Asia.

  8. I think nufflets will more focus on local company. If somebody want to advertise, maybe they will find nufflets rather than Google, since nufflets is cheaper than Google, right? But i believe Google pay will higher than nufflets. Am i right?

  9. I think it is a nice move for them…. it should not treated as copy cat to google adsense, because it is target to Asia market only. and I believe on day both publishers and advertisers will be paid off by the rapid and huge increasing of online internet users ( China is now second largest online internet users after USA)

  10. I dont’ think a 3 months blog like me should join this program.
    I’ll stick on current program.

    –blog for dream–

  11. I agreed on the “own domain name selection only” is very “the” let down! hahaha Nabil reject my application at about 4am in the morning! Wow! He is still up and working. Good job man! No success comes with discipline and hard work!

    here’s the thing…

Why not WHOIS domain names to view the owner detail? You don’t reject domain name start with http://alias.domainname.net, right? Because it’s doesn’t make sense to say the applicant is not a domains owner :P

    Cheers and Happy New Year!
